Instituto Cervantes also concluded their photography contest, entitled Manila My Manila, which I joined (and consequently lost). Nevertheless, it was a great opportunity for fellow photographers to brush up on our techniques and manner of photographing the same subject matter.

Crowd favorites include the bell tower in Manila City Hall, old buildings in Intramuros and kalesas of all kinds. I admit to have photographed these same subjects so I wasn’t surprised to learn that my other entry (which featured the bell tower) wasn’t displayed at Greenbelt 3.

Roger and I didn’t make it to the awarding ceremony but we did see my friend Christian whose entry also made it to the exhibit.

The People’s Choice Award went to a photograph of a water puddle that reflected a building in Intramuros. There were other photos of puddles but this one was brilliant (literally!) because of the golden glow cast off by a nearby lamppost.

The Grand Prize went to an aerial shot of Divisoria, which had an unusual perspective but for me, wasn’t striking enough to merit first prize. I still stand by my choice of the photograph entitled "Reflections" which I wrote about in my previous entry about Manila My Manila.

P.S. I got to talk with one of the jurors of this photo contest, Marlon Despues, and he revealed that two out of four of the judges were in favor of the aerial shot of Divisoria as the Grand Winner of Manila My Manila.
