The worst is over. My endodontist just killed off three of my root nerves in my offending tooth and there just remains the problem of cleaning the root canals and putting a porcelain jacket over the tooth. The most uncomfortable part was putting on the dam over my mouth to prevent the root canals from getting wet – which was eventually cancelled because the dam (the blue waterproof film) kept slipping and wouldn’t stay put. However, the most painful part was the actual scraping and killing of the nerves with the use of drills that go up to 50mm. Even with four anesthesia shots in me, I could at times feel the drill poking in my raw nerves and at one point, it brought tears to my eyes. It was also very tiring for the jaw to keep one’s mouth open during the entire session – this second one lasted from 10 AM to 2:30 PM!
After this session, I still have two more sessions to attend but at least the worst is over. I think.
