Your resident gimikera is here to share her expeditions in this journey called life.
Let me introduce Tenten, the tarsier I won from Safari Shootout in Enchanted Kingdom. She is a furry brown tarsier who has two wide-open eyes that seem to be too big for her face. The note that comes with Tenten reads:
I am a Philippine tarsier!
You have just bought a stuffed toy that looks like me, but it is a little bigger. My actual body length is 4 to 5 inches and my tail is about 9 inches long. I am categorized as a primate, and one of the smallest.
People find me cute and furry, but I am a very shy nocturnal animal and have a hard time in captivity. I have long legs and short body and a rounded head that can rotate 180 degrees, so I can find food much easier. I have a keen sense of hearing and my ears can pick up the slightest sounds. My most striking feature are my eyes. They are large and googly. I need to see very well at night to hunt for food, mainly being insects and lizards. With my elongated legs and adhesive hands, I can jump from tree to tree. I can jump 10 feet without hesitation. I can have a liffespan of up to 13 years of age, if I’m lucky for my family, I can have a baby once a year or sometimes even twice. My baby is born after only 6 months with open eyes. When I call out, I make loud piercing note sounds. If I am contented, I make a chirping cricket-like sound. I hope in the future, our sanctuary will be big enough to give us space, harmony, peace and everlasting life.
Thanks again, your friend,
Tarsier
Ryan also shared information that he learned about tarsiers when he went to Bohol a few months ago. He said that these animals have no skulls even though they are primates. They are very sensitive to their surroundings and if they are not content or if they are kept in captivity for long, they will commit suicide by beating their heads against the cages.
Somewhat like "Give me liberty or give me death!"
I’m sure you’ve heard of avatars, those small icons that help identify your posts on web forums, but how about a gravatar?
A gravatar is short for a globally recognized avatar that is 80×80 pixels in size and appears beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites.
Here’s my approved gravatar. I chose an image of myself that was taken during a trip to Enchanted Kingdom. I turned it into a black and white picture using Photoshop.
This is a big version of my gravatar, which is in reality only 80×80 pixels in size.
To get your own gravatar, simply create a free account on gravatar.com.
After submitting my site for consideration in simply-precious.net, I was fortunate enough to receive this award from webmistress Chau.
